The SWAT Team is one of the most vital - yet misunderstood - units of any police department. SWAT Operators are highly trained with special tactical skills and equipment that help them address high risk situations with the goal of preserving life and public safety.
Many near by SWAT teams are called into service less than 20 times per year. Our IMPD SWAT Team conducted over 420 Operations in 2023 alone. This level of workload requires them to have the best tools and training available to protect our citizens and themselves from any and all threats.
Established by a group of citizens who understand the value that law enforcement officers bring to our community and who care deeply about the lives of the officers and their families, the IMPD SWAT Advisory Board, working with the Indy Public Safety Foundation, helps build relationships between community members and the SWAT Team officers.
The IMPD SWAT Advisory Board is also committed to raising much needed funds and developing resources and relationships that will help the unit do their job more safely and effectively.
